#SIG7 was the brainchild of Peter Burnett, author of The Studio Game who decided that he wanted to arrange a Live Literature event in Edinburgh for not only himself but other like-minded authors. Fledgling thought this was a great idea and agreed to support him in any way we could. Over the last few weeks, Peter has done all the hard work – finding a venue and contacting other authors to speak at the event. We’re not sure what came first, the name Significant 7 or the authors. Either way, we think that #sig7 has a nice ring to it! The first #sig7 event will be held on Friday 21 June, with the lovely folks from Henderson’s at St John’s on Lothian Road, Edinburgh. Doors open at 7pm and it’s free entry! Apart from the drinks. At the first event it will be an evening of prose, poetry and performance from seven of Scotland’s most exciting writers. We have authors, poets and performers Vickie Jarrett, Samuel Best, Pippa Goldschmidt, Sandy Christie, Eddie Gibbons, Dickson Telfer and Peter Burnett speaking, reading and performing throughout the evening, as well as discussing and no doubt debating the current state of affairs in the literary world. The plan is that at intervals throughout the year #SIG7 will hold events featuring seven of Scotland’s new and/or up and coming authors to highlight the wealth of new and existing writing talent that there is in Scotland. The first of these is being held on Friday June 21st in Henderson’s at St John’s, with another planned for November at The Counting House and possibly one during the Fringe at the Serenity Café, all Edinburgh. Do come along and watch as it is going to be a highly entertaining evening and one not to miss! You can find out more on our Facebook page.
