He graduated from Dundee University in 2001 and is now a lecturer at Inverness College, University of the Highlands and Islands. The Darkest Walk is the first title in the Sergeant Mendick series, where the reader meets him investigating rumours of a Chartist uprising in Manchester for Scotland Yard. As the story unravels Sergeant Mendick has to battle his own conflicting loyalties, as well as betrayals, broken trusts and a double agent whilst trying to prevent a treacherous plot that will rock the entire British Empire. A Burden Shared visits Sergeant Mendick back in his home town of Dundee, collecting a prisoner before returning to Scotland Yard in London. Whilst there Mendick has to rub shoulders with the elite of Victorian society, and he finds himself staying in Dundee to investigate a particularly gruesome series of murders on an apparently random group of individuals. A great read that is also historically accurate without being boring, A Burden Shared ticks all the boxes needed for a crime novel – twists, turns, and a deeply engaging plot.
