Alan Brown Interview

After all the excitement of the ECA cover competition, we’ve had chance to sit down with the author of Boy Soldier and Beyond to ask him a few questions. Here’s what was said. AlanBrown_Cropped_Web
    • What’s the books category / genre?
    • Adolensense / Military
    • Can you describe what the book is about?
    • Some of the characters, situations and anecdotes that happened during my Army service from the age of 15 through to 27.
    • Where do you do your writing?
    • At home
    • What led you to write this book?
    • The encouragement that I received from my fellow ex Junior Leaders on our website after I had put a few anecdotes online.
    • How long did it take you to write this book?
    • Including research and obtaining photographs – about 6 months.
    • How did you find/choose your publisher, Fledgling Press?
    • I was very fortuitous in that I was at an invitation only book reading by an old college lecturer and after showing him the outline of my book he introduced me to the CEO of his publisher.
    • What did you learn/surprised you most about the publishing process?
    • I used the punctuation mark ! far too liberally.
    • What would you have done differently given the chance?
    • Started writing a lot sooner.
    • Do you have a writer platform setup? Eg: Facebook, Twitter, blog etc
    • Not as yet.
    • What’s your best piece of advice for authors trying to break through?
    • Keep trying also – you are never too old to start.
    • Something personal about you that people may be surprised to know?
    • I was the person that was responsible for getting Boots to display ‘the male contraception sheath’ back in the mid 70’s when I worked for G.D. Serle & Co.
    • Favourite movie?
    • The Shawshank Redemption
    • Favourite music?
    • Queen
    • Any hobbies?
    • Collecting ‘First Day Covers’ which I have been doing for the last 50 years.
